    Lean fueling issues

    So....

OK guys, I have to bring this up. My 2010 Sfs has a pretty bad case of lean fueling below 5krpm. Currently I have installed the 14t and I am getting the termi slip-ons/performance ecu installed. I've done my research which suggests that the performance ecu and slip-ons will not solve the issue. My local Ducati shop--which is wonderful, Duc Pond, VA--claimed that the only real way to fix it was to go from closed loop under 5krpm to an open loop with tuneboy/powercommander and they would dyno it etc.

Has anyone else fixed/resolved the lean fueling issue? If so, how and what were the results?

    Cheers!

OK....I think I answered my own question....

First, I picked up my SF today. After dealing with the trauma of not having her by my side for alomst 3 weeks, she is done with all her cosmetic add-ons.

    Installed/Add-ons (pics coming)
    -Termi slip-ons
-Cox rad guard (red of course)
    -Rizoma black bar
-Rizoma bar clamp (red of course)
-Rizoma Lux Grips (ummm, you guessed it, RED!)
    -14T

Now, as I posted in the above...I thought they had installed the 14T when I picked it up. They hadn't. The lean fueling issue is a known quantity, and since I use my SF for a commuter/weekend carver, I needed to make sure my low end was smoother than stock. Anyway, I was fully prepared to re-flash my ECU using Tuneboy, but now I couldn't be happier. The 14T removed most of the surging, and lessing the effect of the poping/gurgle. I still have flat spots sub 5k, but they are totaly resonable. I highly rec for people with a SF that has noticable lean fuel issues.

Now, the Termi. The shop took the DB killers out and I didn't fully realize how loud it was until 1/2 through the ride home. Do you guys/gals keep em in or out? I put them in when I got home, and to be honest, it was quieter, but not by much. I love the sound, just wanted a concensus.

    PICS will be coming tomorrow!

Has anyone tried the Bazzaz Z-Fi fuel control module? I'm getting horrible acceleration and feel in the low-end. I'm running Competition Werkes Slip-Ons with no ECU reflash. Was told the reflash wasn't necessary with the slip-ons. Just wondering if anyone has suggestions as to what I can do.

The reviews on it seem to be fairly positive.

I run the Termi's full system with ECU reflashed and it is still really bad below 4000 RPM's. I will have to try the 14t sprocket. I use the bike as a weekend blaster more than a daily driver, but it sure is a handfull going through towns. As far as the Db killers, I leave em out. Nothing sounds better than a free breathing Duc!

I am running the Bazzaz TI-FC. I like it. I also purchased the AFM which helps a ton with tuning. Definitely worth the $$$. It doesn't do too much with the low end but does make the bike smoother overall.

There's a dealer in VA--Redline Motors in Yorktown. Give them a call. Dave, the owner there, can reflash the ECU. His map is very, very smooth and should be better. There's a big thread over at Ducati.ms about it.

I have the same fueling issue as well, will try to install 14T front and slip on termi. I heard each individual bike has its character, some can solve e problem with ref lash, some with slip on some with full system some everything in and still no help. Thats what so special about a Duc.

My understanding is that the standard ecu is very flexible and can be programmed to take most changes with pipes and fuelling and when you see inside those stock cans you would wonder if anything could get through them. These things are made to pass euro laws first and performance a distant second.
However I have heard the guys at Tuneboy can down load some amazing fuel mapping if you really want some performance and even cruise control.

cruise control will only work on bikes with throttle by wire systems and the SF1098 does not have it (not sure about the 848 but I'd guess probably not). Tuneboy is designing a cruise control for the multistrada.

The stock ECU is only flexible - or programmable if your service center has the software to hack into it. The Dealers do not do this and so very few tuners can use the stock ECU for tuning.
Some shops will reflash your ECU but the system they use only copies another map and reflashes it to your ECU - not very effective if they use the DP map which doesn't work well.
The best bet is to find a shop that can create a custom map. There are a handfull around the US that can do this.

I'm running an ECU programmed by Doug Lofgrin and it works fantastic. It completely eliminated my low-end fueling issues, created more power and it gets better mileage. That's right, more power and better mileage.
Doug can be reached at moperfserv at visi .com

BTW, I have no ties to Doug or his shop, I'm just a happy customer
